Northwestern Heads To Hastings In Football Action

No.6 Northwestern College will make the trip west to play Hastings in a GPAC match-up this weekend in Hastings, Nebraska.  Northwestern dropped its first game of the season last weekend, losing to top-ranked Morningside 42-34, to fall to 5-1 in the GPAC, 6-1 overall. Hastings defeated Concordia 21-13 last weekend to move to 2-4 in the GPAC and 4-4 overall.

Off to its best start since 2014 (8-1), the Red Raiders are 6-1 on the season, 5-1 in conference play. They are currently ranked sixth in the NAIA. Northwestern has wins over two ranked teams this season, defeating both Doane and Midland.

With its 21-13 road win over Concordia last weekend, Hastings evened its overall record to 4-4, 2-4 in league play. They are currently tied with Concordia for seventh place in the GPAC, one game in back of both Doane and Briar Cliff and a game up on the University of Jamestown. The Broncos have won two of their last three games after losing three straight to Briar Cliff, Dordt and Morningside. Hastings also has wins over Peru State and Oklahoma Panhandle State in non-conference play to start the season.

Coach Harper, in his eighth season with the Broncos, returns 14 starters from a 2017 team that finished eighth in the GPAC with a 2-6 record, 5-6 overall.

Kickoff at Lloyd Wilson Field is scheduled for 1 pm.
