VERMILLION, S.D. – The Northwestern College women’s track and field team competed at the South Dakota Challenge over three days, hosted by the University of South Dakota. The Raiders posted competitive times and placements against competition spanning NCAA Division I, II, III and the NAIA.
Abigail Clarke (Jr., Waverly, Neb./Waverly) and Tirzah Wittenberg (INFO) both notched National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) provisional marks for the 2022 Outdoor Championships in the 800m.
Erin Hulberg (Fr., Brookings, S.D./Brookings) sets a new NWC Outdoor record in the pole vault, topping Jana Olson’s mark set in 2011, clearing 3.42m.
HIGHLIGHTS
Abigail Clarke (2:21.47) and Tirzah Wittenberg (2:22.17) finished 13th and 15th, respectively, in the 800m to kick-off the challenge.
Katlyn Wiese took home a 10th place finish in the 5000m with a time of 18:43.02, marking the second-best NAIA mark of the event.
Three Raiders took home top-15 finishes in the 400m hurdle, including two NAIA provisional marks by Abigail Clarke (5th, 1:03.95) and Emma Zoet (6th, 1:04.45). Emma Jenness finished 11th with a time of 1:08.83.
Savonne Sterk took home a 4th place finish in the 400m dash with a time of 1:01.38.
The Raiders 4×100 relay team – Lausen, Davies, Rees, Petersen- took home a 5th place finish with a time of 52.00.
Erin Hulberg was the highest finishing NAIA athlete in the Pole Vault with a tied for 10th-place finish with a height of 3.42m.
Up Next: Northwestern will head to Des Moines, Iowa to participate in the 2022 Drake Relays hosted by Drake University April 28-30. The Raiders will also send athletes to compete at the Viking Classic hosted by Grand View University on Friday, April 29.
