NWC’s Gilbert Earns GPAC Track And Field Honor

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – James Gilbert Jr. notched two first-place finishes in the opening meet of the Outdoor Track & Field season at the BVU Early Bird Invite, earning him Week 1 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Field Athlete of the Week honors, the national office announced Thursday morning.

Gilbert (Jr., Orlando, Fla./Edgewater) competed in the long jump and the 100m dash for the Raiders this past weekend in Storm Lake. He won the 100m dash with a time of 11.07 seconds, taking first-place. Within a span of ten minutes, he took first-place in the long jump with leap of 6.98m.

On a cold (30-36 degrees) and windy (NNW 16-18mph) day on the campus of Buena Vista University, both his marks set BVU Early Bird meet records to etch his name in the history books at Buena Vista.

Gilbert is earning his second GPAC Field Athlete of the Week honor of the 2021-22 season, earning the first one in the indoor season back on January 19. Between the men’s and women’s teams, Gilbert’s honor is the fourth of the year. He also becomes the second Raider to earn two this season, as Kennedy Kramer has two to her name this year.
