Nygren Promoted To Full-Time Cheer and Dance Coach

Orange City, Iowa — Northwestern College and Vice President for Athletics Dr. Micah Parker announce that Taylor Nygren’s position of head cheer and dance coach will be expanded to full-time status in an effort to strengthen those competitive programs and enhance the game environment for football and basketball.

“Red Raider athletics is excited to welcome Taylor as a full-time coach,” commented Dr. Parker. “Our commitment to her will help us grow programs that have a big impact on game environment and help us compete for championships in the GPAC.”

Nygren is in her fifth year as the head of the cheer program at Northwestern. Last season, Northwestern finished fourth in the GPAC Cheer Championship and fifth at the Northwest Regional Qualifier. Two members of the 2019-20 team received all-conference honors, Marcus Tucker and Abby Petersen.

This will be her third year as the head of the Raiders dance program. Northwestern placed fourth at the conference championship, seventh in regionals, and Julia Goodburn claimed all-conference honors.

“I am extremely excited to build and grow our cheer and dance programs here at Northwestern,” stated Nygren. “Over the course of the last five seasons we have really grown from a club activity to a demanding sport. This will bring new and exciting opportunities for many students on campus and future athletes.”
