Milford, Iowa — The Sheldon girls basketball team opened the season at Milford Tuesday night with the Pioneers getting the win 60-45.
Sheldon led 12-8 at the end of the first quarter with Okoboji taking a 26-23 halftime lead. A Pioneer run to start the second half put them up 38-27 with 3:23 left in the third quarter. At the end of three it was 43-31 as the Pioneers get the win 60-45.
Sheldon got a game high 21 points from Makenna Kleinhesselink and 14 from Maliah Kleinhesselink. Claire Johnson added 8 points. Okoboji had one player in double figures led by Montana Wilson with a 19 point effort with 15 coming in the second half. Ella Stoll was next with 9 points followed by Ava Packebush and Olivia Lorenzen with 8 points each.
The Orabs open the home schedule against MOC Floyd Valley next Tuesday. Okoboji will be on the road at Rock Valley. Both schools boys teams will see their first action of the season.
