Peterson Iowa — Sioux Central downed Sheldon 8-1 in a 2A District 2 quarterfinal match up at Peterson Saturday night. With the loss the Orabs season comes to a close.
The Rebels took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed in the contest. Carter Boettcher walked and Gibson Olson followed with a single to center. Both scored on a 2-run single to left by Dakota Dueschle.
Sheldon got on the board in the top of the third as Tye Sudbeck single to right and later scored on a double to left by Brennan Chester to cut the lead to 2-1.
Sioux Central added a run in the bottom of the inning as Olson reached on a single and scored on an rbi single to right by Trent Anderson to make it 3-1.
The Rebels scored two more in the fourth as Jake Saunders led off with a single. After a pair of fly ball outs Olson singled in Saunders. Jake Hargens followed with an rbi double to make it 5-1.
Sioux Central finished the scoring with a 3-run sixth. Boettcher singled. Olson followed with a bunt single and Dueschle was hit by a pitch. The first two runs scored on a Trent Anderson single to left. Dueschle scored from third on an errant pick off attempt at first base to make the final 8-1.
Caleb Rock went the first 4 and 2/3 for the win. He struck out 11 and gave up 1 run on 3 hits. Jake Hargens came on to finish and threw shut out relief. Aubren Budden went the first 3 and 2/3 for Sheldon to take the loss. Brennan Chester went the final 2 and 1/3 coming on with the Orabs down 5-3.
Sheldon ends the season at 2-10. Sioux Central moves on to the semifinals Tuesday hosted by West Sioux in Hawarden. The Rebels meet Unity in the 4:30 game as the Knights got lower bracket bye. The upper bracket will match Sioux Center an 8-6 winner over Cherokee Saturday against West Sioux in the 7:00 pm contest.
