Orab Football Team off to 3-0 Start

Sheldon Orabs 2Sheldon Iowa — The Sheldon Orab Football Team opened the district schedule with a 27-20 home win over MOC Floyd Valley. With the win the Orabs are 3-0 on the season.

Sheldon scored on their  first offensive play as quarterback Jaden Kleinhesselink found Brandon Winkel for a 68 yard score. Parker Nissen added the extra point and Sheldon was up 7-0 with 9:56 left in the opening quarter.

The Dutch got on the board with :01 second left in the quarter. An 84 yard drive came to a close as Caleb Netten  scored from 5 yards out. The kick was no good and the Sheldon lead was cut to 7-6. With no scoring in the second quarter 7-6 would be the half time score.

Sheldon got the ball to start the second half and scored on their first possession. With 9:28 left in the third quarter an 80 yard drive was capped when Kleinhesselink found Phillip Cain for a 20 yard touchdown. Nissen’s kick was good and the lead was 14-6 as the second half got underway.

In the fourth quarter the Dutch cut the lead to 14-12 as Ben De Boer hit Kyle Puttman for a 21 yard score. A 2-point attempt was no good  and the Orab lead had been cut to 2 points with 11:49 left to play.

Sheldon took advantage of a short field to stretch the lead. A 35 yard drive ended on a 12 yard Kleinhesselink to Cain touchdown pass. The kick was no good and Sheldon led 20-12 with 7:41 to play.

The scoring barrage continued as MOC Floyd Valley forced an Orab fumble and recovered at the Sheldon 30 yard line. That was turned into points when De Boer found Kyle Te Grotenhuis in the end zone for a 16 yard score. De Boer ran for the 2 points and the game was tied at 20-20 with 5:36 to play.

Sheldon answered that score with a 68 yard drive for the game winner. Kleinhesselink found Cain for a 28 yard score up the right sideline for the touch down. Parker Nissen’s extra point would make the final 27-20 in favor of Sheldon.

With the win Sheldon improves to 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in the district. MOC Floyd Valley is off to an 0-3 start and 0-1 in the district.

Next up for Sheldon will be a trip to Rock Valley for a meeting with the Nighthawks next Friday. MOC Floyd Valley will travel to Pocahontas Area.
