Orab Softball Falls to Nighthawks Wednesday Night

Boyden Iowa — The Sheldon Orab softball team closed out the regular season at Boyden Hull Rock Valley Wednesday night. The Nighthawks wrapped up the conference schedule at 13-1 following a 6-1 win. In the process BHRV wins their 8th consecutive conference title.

The Nighthawks scored a pair of runs to take a 2-0 third inning lead as Jewel Bergstrom and Taylor Richter both singled and scored on a Charli Bomgaars triple to right field.

Sheldon cut the lead to 2-1 in the top of the fourth as Miliah Kleinhesselink singled and later scored on a fielders choice off the bat of Payton Lode.

The Nighthawks added a run in the home half of the fourth as Keely Swanson drew a walk and later scored on a single by Bergstrom to make it 3-1 Nighthawks.

Boyden Hull Rock Valley closed the scoring with a 3-run fifth inning as Bomgaars, Lizzy Blum and Brooke Zylstra all reached and scored to make the final 6-1 in favor of the Nighthawks.

With the win the Nighthawks are 21-7 on the year and 13-1 in the conference. Sheldon ends the regular season at 6-18 and 4-10 in the Siouxland.

BHRV will finish the regular season Friday at LeMars. Sheldon will wait until Wednesday the 10th when they open tournament play in 3A Region 1 at Humboldt against the Wildcats who are hosting the upper bracket quarterfinals. First pitch is set for 7:30. Algona and Estherville Lincoln Central have the early game at 5:30.

The Nighthawks open the Region at Spirit Lake on Wednesday in the early game against G-LR-CL at 5:30. Spirit Lake will host Okoboji in the other lower bracket quarterfinal at 7:30.
