Orabs And Pioneeers Split Friday Night in Sheldon

Sheldon, Iowa — Sheldon split a home basketball doubleheader with Okoboji Friday night. Sheldon won the girls game 60-53 while the boys game went to the Pioneers 66-63.

Okoboji led at the first three breaks before the Orabs outscored Okoboji 21-9 in the fourth quarter. Sheldon went a perfect 7 of 7 at the line in the final 8 minutes to nail down a 60-53 win. At the end of the first quarter the Pioneers led 16-11. At the half it was 26-22. At the end of three the lead was 5 at 44-39.

Sheldon got a game high 19 from Claire Johnson and 14 from Maliah Kleinhesselink. Makenna Kleinhesselink and Payton Lode were just out of double figures with 8 points each. Okoboji had three players in double figures with Montana Wilson hitting for 17. Ava Pakebush hit for 12 with Ella Stoll adding 11.

With the win Sheldon is 6-5 on the year and 4-5 in the conference. Okoboji is even at 6-6 with a 3-6 conference mark.

 

In the boys game the Pioneers rode a 37 point effort from Dordt commit Lucas Lorenzen to a 66-63 win. Kaleb Peschong was next on the scoring list with 9 points. Sheldon put 2 players in double figures with Shane Brouwer leading the team with 23 points including a three at the buzzer that made it a 3 point game. Blake Radke found the bottom of the cylinder for 21.

Okoboji led at all the breaks 18-9 after the first quarter. At the half it was 33-19 with the Pioneers leading 48-39 at the end of the third quarter. A fourth quarter charge  came up just short for Sheldon as the Orabs found themselves on the down side of a 66-63 final score.

With the win Okoboji is 6-4 on the season and 4-4 in the Siouxland. Sheldon is 3-7 on the year and 2-6 in the conference.

A three game week for the Orabs begins Monday at Hartley Melvin Sanborn. Tuesday its home against Hinton with a Friday trip to MOC Floyd Valley. Okoboji begins the week Tuesday with home games against George Little Rock.
