Inwood, Iowa — The Sheldon Orabs and West Lyon Wildcats split a Siouxland Conference Basketball doubleheader on Friday night at Wildcat Gym. The girls game went to West Lyon 57-29, while the boys game went to Sheldon 57-52.
West Lyon started the game on a 6-0 run and after the first quarter had a 14-7 lead. Heading into the break the Wildcats extended their lead to 23-13. After three, West Lyon’s lead was 35-22 and the Wildcats went on to the 57-29 victory.
West Lyon had three players in double figures. The Wildcats got a game high sixteen points from Jordyn Kramer, Rachael Joachim had fifteen points, and Mia Hoogeveen added fourteen. Sheldon got a team high twelve points from Brooklyn Grady.
With the win, West Lyon improves to 10-1 on the year, 9-1 in the conference. Sheldon falls to 2-9 on the year and 2-8 in the Siouxland.
The boys contest was tight throughout. West Lyon and Sheldon traded baskets in the opening quarter, and the Wildcats had a 17-15 lead after the first after Korbyn Gramstad hit a three pointer as time expired. Sheldon and West Lyon continued to go back and forth, and heading into the break Sheldon had a 33-30 lead. The battle continued in the second half. After three West Lyon had a 43-42 lead. Sheldon was able to regain a slim lead and later ice the game at the line and come away with the 57-52 win.
Sheldon had three players in double figures. Tyler Johnson had a team high seventeen points, while Jaden Kleinhesselink added fifteen points, and Tyler Loded had eleven. The Wildcats got a game high 20 points from Korbyn Gramstad. Micah Meyer added fifteen points, Malachi Van Wyhe had ten points.
With the win, Sheldon improves to 9-1 on the year, and 8-1 in the Siouxland. West Lyon falls to 7-3 on the year, and 6-2 in the conference.
Up next for the Orabs is a non-conference home contest against Spencer on Tuesday, January 9th. West Lyon will be on the road to Okoboji Tuesday night.
