Orabs Fall To Comets

The Sheldon Orabs fell on the road in Siouxland conference basketball action to host Boyden Hull.

In the girls contest they battled back and forth in the first quarter ending in 17 all tie. Orabs were sparked by 6 points from Maliah Kleinhesselink and the Comets were led with 9 points from Brooke Zylstra. Comets defense in the second quarter forced some turnovers on the Orabs and were able to convert them into points giving the Comets a 30-20 halftime lead. In the third quarter the two teams battle back and forth trading baskets, but the Comets held on to their 10-point lead ending the quarter up 43-33. The final frame belonged to the comets going 6 of 7 from the free throw line and going on to post a 57-40 victory.

The Comets had three players in double figures led by Zylstra’s 16 points, 13 from Emma Zoet and 12 from Mallory Nilles. The Orabs were led by Maliah Kleinhesselink’s 9 points.

The Comets improve to 6-3 overall and in the conference and the Orabs fall 2=8 overall and 2-7 in the conference.

In the boys contest the Orabs came out on fire to start the contest behind Mitchel Wolf’s 8 points and pushed out to a 17-6 lead at the 4-minute mark before the Comets called a timeout to regroup. The teams battled back and forth for the remainder of the quarter and the Comets cut into the lead but the Orabs led 23-18 after one. The second quarter belonged to the Comets sparked by 9 points off the bench from Marcus Kelderman and pushing the Comets out to a 37-29 lead at the break. The Comets defense in the third quarter allowed them to convert some turnovers into points and pushed their lead to 61-46 at the end of three. The Comets would go on to post an 83-55 victory at home.

The Comets had three players in double figures led by 29 from Kelderman, 19 from Keyton Moser and 15 from Tanner Te Slaa. The Orabs had two players in double figures led by 18 from Wolf and 13 from Kaleb Ackerman.

The Comets improve to 7-1 overall and in the conference and the Orabs fall to 2-7 overall and 2-6 in the conference.

Next up for the Orabs will be a home contest against Sioux Center and the Comets will travel to Okoboji.
