Hull, Iowa — The Sheldon Orabs advance to the Class 2A District 2 Semi-finals after an 11-1 win over the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Hawks on Saturday afternoon.
The Orabs got the bats going early in the first with Matt Buenger hit a double to left field. Colby Kleinhesselink would then hit one hard down the right field line for the 2-run home run. Sheldon would add three more in the 1st and end the inning leading 5-0. Buenger would once again lead off in the 2nd inning, this time with a triple into deep center field. Kleinhesselink would hit one deep to right at the base of the fence for the RBI double. After a Travis Buyert walk, Cody Van Meeteren would add 2 more runs with a single to left field for the 8-0 lead after 2 innings of play. In the 3rd, Kleinhesselink would single to center and complete the cycle with a triple in the 5th. The Orabs would go on to win 11-1 in 6 innings.
Kleinhesselink would get the win, going the first 3 innings, allowing just one hit, 2 walks, and struck out 3. Ross Van Kley would come in for relief in the 4th inning, and gave up 4 hits, walked 1 and struck out 2, giving up just one run.
Jordan Japenga would take the loss for Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn, going 5 innings, giving up 14 hits, walking 2, striking out 3, and giving up 10 runs.
Sheldon improves to 8-17 on the season, and head back to Hull to play against the Okoboji Pioneers on Tuesday, July 14th.
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn ends the season at 7-13.
