Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Orabs basketball teams got their first wins of the season against the Generals of Sibley-Ocheyedan Friday night at the O-Rena. The girls game was in favor of the Orabs 61-57, and the boys won 72-52.
In the girls game, Sheldon jumped out to a 18-14 lead after the first quarter, but both teams would continue to battle and Sibley-Ocheyedan would lead at the halftime break 32-31. Sheldon outscored the Generals 15-6 in the third quarter and had a 46-38 lead heading into the fourth. Sibley-Ocheyedan would battle back in the final minutes, but Sheldon would hold on for the 61-57 lead.
Sheldon got a team high high 23 points from Brooklyn Grady, and was joined in double figures by Sydney Olsen with 10 points. The Generals had two players in double figures. Madison Brouwer had a game high 26 points, and Bria Wasmund had 14.
With the win Sheldon improves to 1-5 on the year and 1-4 in the Siouxland. Sibley-Ocheyedan falls to 0-5 on the year and in the conference.
The Sheldon boys overcame a slow start to get their first win. After the first quarter, Sibley-Ocheyedan had a 13-7 lead. Sheldon then erupted for 27 second quarter points en route to a 34-31 lead at intermission. The Orabs’ Jordan Jeffries had 16 points in the first half. The Orabs pulled away in the second half, leading 53-37 after the third quarter, and went on to win 72-52.
Sheldon had 3 players in double figures. The Orabs got a game high 22 points from Kaleb Ackerman, Jeffries had 21 total points, and Mitchel Wolf put in 12. Sibley-Ocheyedan got a team high 13 points from Jack Carlson, Carter Brouwer and Caleb Mayer each had 10 points.
With the win Sheldon Improves to 1-4 on the year and 1-3 in the Siouxland. Sibley-Ocheyedan falls to 0-3 on the year and in the conference.
Up next for the Orabs is a home contest against George-Little Rock Tuesday night. Sibley-Ocheyedan will be on the road to Okoboji Tuesday.
