Poppema Commits To Defender Football

Charlie Poppema, a senior at Unity Christian, has announced his intention to attend Dordt College and join the Defender football program.

Poppema is 6-1, 200 pounds and played linebacker and quarterback this past season after missing much of 2015 with an injury. He totaled 11.5 tackles in limited time on defense and completed 65 passes for 765 yards and six touchdowns during his senior season and ran for three touchdowns. As a junior Poppema had eight catches for 127 yards and was in on 13.5 tackles on defense.

“Charlie is a great addition to this growing recruiting class. His playing career at Unity reflected his diversity in skill set. Although Charlie has played a variety of positions, we primarily see him as a Linebacker in college. He was a great leader Unity and an outstanding fit for our program,” said Dordt College football coach Joel Penner.

Charlie is the son of Jim and Lori Poppema of Orange City, Iowa. He plans to study Business at Dordt College.
