Sheldon and MOC Floyd Valley Split Basketball Doubleheader

basketballSheldon Iowa — Sheldon and MOC Floyd Valley split a Siouxland Conference basketball doubleheader in Sheldon Friday night. The girls game went to the Dutch 54-30 with Sheldon taking the boys game 68-42.

MOC Floyd Valley led at all the breaks in the girls game. They were up 16-5 at the end of the first quarter and 32-12 at the half. The lead was 45-24 at the end of the third quarter as they went on to a 54-30 win.

The Lady Dutch had two players in double figures getting a game high 16 from Ashley Kelderman and 13 from Lily De Haan. Sheldon was led by Emily Meyer with 9 points and Bryn Groff with 8.

MOC Floyd Valley improves to 11-7 on the year and 11-4 in the conference. Sheldon is 3-13 on the season and 2-12 in the conference.

 

In the boys game the Dutch opened with a 13-11 first quarter lead with the Orabs taking a 30-26 lead at half time. Sheldon took control in the third quarter with a 49-32 lead going into the fourth quarter as they posted a 68-42 win.

Three Orabs hit double figures led by Jaden Kleinhesslink with a game high 17. Ryan Van Marel added 11 with Kyle Boerhave hitting for 10. Trenton De Haan led the Dutch with a 10 point night.

With the win Sheldon is 12-3 for the year and 10-3 in the conference. With the loss MOC Floyd Valley is 4-13 on the year and 3-11 in the Siouxland. A quick turnaround for the Orabs finds them at Spencer for make up games Saturday. The girls tip off at 3:00 with the boys game to follow.
