Prostrollo Continues To Be King

bowlingSibley, Iowa — The fall/spring season for sporting events is slowing, however the lanes at Sibley’s Merry Lanes have been very busy. The bowling season started in September and runs through April for many area leagues.

Merry Lanes also hosts many events called King of the Hill bowling tournaments that run Friday night and Saturday. Shifts of single guys and gals can bowl a 4 game set in a handicapped format making the competition exciting for all. 50-80 entries give it a shot each event. This season there has been a presence on the lanes in Sibley whom has worn the the Crown all but one of the organized events. That one went to the owner of the Merry Lanes Breck Wasmund. The King for the past few seasons has been Sheldon’s Ron Prostrollo.

This year alone he has captured the title for 5 of the 6 tournaments that have run. KIWA has talked about his accomplishments before because he now has many 300’s, which are always a thrill. Ron has been consistent and focused on winning. With a 220+ average on 2 leagues in Sibley, he outlasts the competition with hard work and focus. He holds the Honor of King of the Hill title for the Sibley Sheet Metal held back on October 28-29, Sibley Hardware back on November 18-19, Breck Grabbed the Kelly’s Catering king on December 16-17, Ron held top spot again at the Otis Electric on January 13-14, Krogman Snow Removal on February 10-11, and now the Hohwenstein Septic Co. on March 24-25. 2 more tournaments are left, Schotty’s Liquor on March 31-April 1st, and on April 14-15 its th Bud Shootout.

Ron and his bowling buddies also headed north to Fargo, North Dakota earlier in March down to Alexandria, Minnesota for 9 games each day, plus tons of fun. Last weekend was spent at Huron, South Dakota, where Breck’s father Daryl owns and operates. Ron and his mixed doubles partner Sheila garnered 4th place overall with over 80 entries. Others placed at that tournament was KIWA’s Mark Rector and Breck’s Daughter Ally Prins placing 7th.

Coming up the group is headed to Eastway in Sioux Falls for some more doubles action and then later in April, off to Winnebago, Minnesota for a 6 game sweeper. Many from Sibley’s Merry Lanes make the trip to chase the Nationals each year, which were in Las Vegas and collided with the same weekend as the Sheldon group’s North Dakota and Minnesota trip. Shots on these levels can be tough but the thrill of being there is awesome.

Breck Wasmund has operated the Lanes in Sibley for many years and enjoys the competition from all whom come to his establishment to be entertained. Looking for a little bowling action? Head to Merry Lanes and watch or show them what you got. Congratulations to all who participate and enjoy your winnings.
