Raider Baseball Closes Week With Split vs DWU

Orange City, Iowa — The Northwestern College baseball team split with Dakota Wesleyan in a home doubleheader played today to close the week with a 3-1 record. Northwestern defeated DWU 9-2 in game one and lost game two 14-4 (8 innings); both teams are now 4-8 in conference play.

Game One: 9-2 win
DWU scored an unearned run in the top of the first on a single by Cameron Quigley who came across after a sacrifice fly from Luke LeMay. Colton Harold tied the game with a solo home run on a 1-2 pitch with two outs in the bottom of the first. Joseph Hanisch singled home the Tigers second run, scoring Tyler Torres who reached base on a double to start the 2nd inning. Northwestern went ahead for good with a five-run, third inning; Harold hit a grand slam and Sam Stanford followed with a solo shot. The Raiders padded their lead with a run in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Jaden Snyder tripled home pinch runner Hunter Rynders in the fourth. Dylan Kirkeby (W: 2-1) pitched the final five innings, giving up three hits to go with a career-best eight strikeouts. Harold went 2/3, 2 HR, 5 RBI; the senior has hit eight home runs this season. Stanford and Sutton Derr both added two hits

DWU was led by Cameron Quigley with two hits, and Seth Christiansen (1-2) took the loss, pitching the first three innings.

Game Two: 14-4 loss (8 innings)
DWU plated two unearned runs in the first; Luke LeMay hit a sac fly, scoring Tyler Torres. Drew DeMers hit an RBI double and Dalton Wilcoxen added a two-run home run to put the Tigers up 6-0 after two innings. Wilcoxen added an RBI double in the Tigers’ 2-run fourth and an 8-0 lead. Sutton Derr gave Northwestern its first run on an RBI groundout, scoring Sam Stanford; J.D. Wonder added a pinch-hit, RBI double to make the score 8-2 after four. LeMay led off the fifth inning with a solo home run. Stanford hit an RBI single, scoring Noa Vogel, in the bottom of the fifth (9-3 score). Vogel led off the bottom of the seventh with a home run, cutting the DWU lead to 9-4. DWU put the game away with a five-run 8th inning; Torres hit a two-run double and Wilcoxen hit an RBI double
