Dordt Baseball Splits With Jamestown

Sioux Center, Iowa — The Dordt baseball team split a conference baseball doubleheader Saturday afternoon.

Jamestown used three homeruns to get past the Dordt Defenders in game one of their doubleheader 12-4 on Saturday afternoon in Sioux Center.

Jamestown scored on a couple unearned runs in the first inning with Dordt getting one run back in the bottom of the first on a Chase Edwards sacrifice fly that scored John Emerson.

A four run outburst by the Jimmies in the third inning put them up 6-1 and they added a run in the fourth to go up 7-1. Dordt got two runs back in the bottom of the fourth with Lucas Nelson delivering a single and a fielder’s choice by Austin Pullar scored another run. Dordt threatened to add to cut further into the lead but Logan Cline pulled a long flyball foul that would have got the Defenders within 7-6. Instead he was retired two pitches later and the inning ended with Jamestown still up 7-3.

Jamestown scored three unanswered and Dordt got one back on a Chase Edwards sacrifice fly for the 12-4 final.

Both teams had 10 hits.

John Emerson had two doubles and a single with two runs scored. Lucas Nelson had two singles and a run batted in and Logan Cline had two singles with a stolen base. Logan Horne struck out five in three and a third innings and took the loss.

The Dordt Defenders and Jamestown Jimmies faced off in game two of Saturday’s GPAC doubleheader, and Dordt took a late lead to pick up the conference victory.

The Defenders opened up the scoring in the 1st inning after John Emerson reached on a single and was batted in on Logan Cline’s 2-run home run.

In the 2nd, Jamestown added 4 runs on 4 hits, but the Defenders took back the lead in the bottom of the inning. Aaron Eshelman hit a one-out single, followed by a double from Lucas Nelson. Later in the inning, John Emerson hit a single to left field, scoring Nelson. With the bases loaded, Chase Edwards hit a single to center, allowing both Emerson and Austin Pullar to score.

With Jamestown trailing 5-4 in the top of the 3rd, the Jimmies scored two runs on a home run from Brice Foster. The Defenders limited the damage, though, and tied the game in the 4th on Cline’s RBI single.

In the next inning, trailing by one run, Dordt jumped out to a 9-7 lead on Austin Pullar’s 3-run home run that scored Eshelman and Andrew Pullar.

Nick Yeager came in to pitch in the top of the 7th, only allowing 1 run to maintain Dordt’s lead.

Austin Pullar led the team in RBI with 3. John Emerson was 3-5 with 3 runs scored. Chase Edwards had 2 RBI. Nick Yeager allowed only 1 hit and earned the save

Dordt will play Northwestern in a four-game weekend series vs. Northwestern on April 9 and 10. Friday’s first pitch is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
