Raiders Throttle Waldorf In Doubleheader Sweep

Austin, Minnesota — The Northwestern College softball team put together a complete performance in a doubleheader sweep against Waldorf (10-4, 7-0) in games played Saturday at the Packer Dome in Austin, Minn.

The Raiders improve to 5-3 on the season; Waldorf drops its season opener and is 0-2 this season.

You want offense…Northwestern bats produced 24 hits, 17 runs and slammed three home runs in the doubleheader. Pitching, sure thing…Raider pitchers combined to give up just nine hits and four runs while striking out 11 in 14 innings. The defense was stellar as well, committing just one error on the day.

Northwestern belted three home runs in its 10-4 win in game one, two by Emily Bosch and one from Emily Strasser. Bosch hit a solo shot in the second and a three-run dinger in the sixth. The senior totaled four RBI and was also walked three times. Strasser hit a solo home run in her team’s four-run sixth.

10 different Raiders had at least one hit, two each for Bosch, Kameryn Etherington and Madysn Grotewold, who scored two runs.

Northwestern scored in all but one inning, opening up a 4-0 lead after three innings. Waldorf pushed three runs across in the fourth to make it a one-run game but Head Coach Shane Bouman’s squad answered with two runs in the bottom half of the fourth for a 6-3 lead. The Raiders put the game away with four runs in the sixth.

Etherington (3-1) pitched the first four innings to pick up her third win of the young 2021 season. The freshman limited Waldorf to a pair of hits and struck out eight. Sydnee Isom pitched the final three innings, giving up two hits and one run.

Karlee Leyvas (0-1) suffered the loss for the Warriors, giving up 13 hits and 10 runs in six innings.

Game two belonged to senior Samantha Ubben, who pitched her fifth career shutout in leading the Raiders to a 7-0 win. Ubben allowed five hits, all singles, and struck out three in the full seven innings.

Jordyn Kramer paced the Northwestern offense with three hits, going 3-for-3 with two RBI and run scored. Strasser added two hits, a run scored and an RBI; six other Northwestern players totaled one hit each as Bouman’s squad was effective up and down the line-up.

Northwestern plated six runs in the second inning, sending 10 batters to the plate. Kramer, Strasser, Jessica Mouw all hit RBI singles and Bosch added a two-run double.
