Red Raider Women Host College Of Saint Mary

The Northwestern College women’s basketball team returns to the Bultman Center when they play host to College of Saint Mary for a GPAC match-up this weekend. Tip-off on Saturday, Jan.9 is set for 2pm.

Northwestern is tied with Jamestown for sixth place in the current GPAC standings with a 6-5 record, 6-8 overall; the visiting Flames are in 12th place in the conference standings with an 0-7 mark, 1-9 overall.

The Flames have dropped eight straight games since earning their lone win of the season against Presentation on Oct. 31 (69-47). They are 0-7 in the GPAC, 1-9 overall, and have lost to Morningside, Midland and Dordt since the new year. Last time out, they were defeated at home by Dordt, 83-59, on Wednesday night.

Walker is in his third season as the head of the Flames program and returns two starters, five players from a 2019-20 squad that finished 11th in the GPAC with a 2-20 record, 5-25 overall. They were picked 11th in the GPAC preseason poll.

The Raiders defeated Mount Marty last time out, 88-66, their second highest scoring output of the season. Sammy Blum (22pts), Molly Schany (17pts) and Taylor VanderVelde (11pts) all scored in double figures and the Raiders outscored the host Lancers 26-10 in the third quarter.

Northwestern is tied with Jamestown for sixth place in the current GPAC standings with a 6-5 record, 6-8 overall. They trail Midland by two games in the win column at the halfway point of hte conference season.
