Remsen St Mary’s Falls In 1A Semifinals

#3 seed Remsen St Mary’s suffered their first loss of the season in the 1A State semifinals Wednesday night falling to #2 seed North Linn 56-46.

North Linn ultimately won the game at the free throw line going 20 of 28 to seal the win. In a back and forth game early it was tied at 10-10 at the end of the first quarter. At the half North Linn was up by one at 25-24.

The tide turned in the third quarter as the Lynx outscored Remsen St Mary’s 13-2 to take a 38-26 lead going into the final 8 minutes and eventually earn a sport in the title game Friday afternoon with the 56-46 win.

North Linn had three players in double figures led by Austin Hilmer with 18 points. Tate Haugenbury was next with 13 followed by Dylan Kurt with 12 points. Remsen St Mary’s put three players in double figures. Carter Schorg, Jaxon Bunkers and Austin Jensen hit for 12 points each. Jensen pulled down 10 rebounds for the double-double.

The Hawks end the season at 25-1 with their only loss coming in the state semifinals. North Linn will take a 26-1 record into the title game.

The win by the Lynx sets up a 1 and 2 match up for the Class 1A title with Grand View Christian who survived their second overtime game of the tournament. The Thunder downed Lake Mills 71-66 in double overtime.
