Rock Valley Girls Hold On; Rocket Boys Pull Off Upset

Rock Valley, Iowa — The Sheldon Orabs were on the road at Rock Valley Friday night. The girls game went to the Rockets as they were able to hold on 66-63, and the boys game went to Rock Valley 59-45.

Rock Valley started the girls contest with a 6-0 run and after the first eight minutes led 17-10 and heading to intermission Rock Valley maintained their lead 29-23 over the Orabs. Emily De Ruyter of Rock Valley had twelve first half points. Sheldon then proceeded to outscore Rock Valley 17-10 in the third quarter and took a 40-39 lead after three. Both teams continued to battle in the fourth. De Ruyter hit three straight from beyond the arc, but Sheldon was able to keep up. In the final seconds, Rock Valley was able to hold on for the win 66-63.

Rock Valley had a game high twenty-one points from De Ruyter, Taylor Richter added fourteen, and Abby Heemstra had thirteen. Heemstra went nine of ten from the line, and seven of eight in the fourth quarter. Sheldon had two players in double figures. Emily Meyer had twenty-one, with eleven coming in the fourth quarter, and Brooklyn Grady added ten points. 

With the win Rock Valley improves to 9-6 on the year, 8-5 in the Siouxland. Sheldon falls to 3-13 on the season, and 2-11 on the year.

Rock Valley controlled the pace in the opening quarter of the boys game and after the first eight minutes led 16-11. Heading intermission, Rock Valley’s lead then dwindled to 27-25. Rock Valley pulled away to as much as ten points in the third, and after three led 39-33. The Rockets opened the fourth with a thirteen point lead and went on to win 59-45.

Rock Valley got a game high fifteen points from Cade Moser, JT Van’t Hul had eleven, and Brayton Van Kekerix had twelve. Sheldon got a team high thirteen points from Jaden Kleinhesslink. 

Rock Valley improves to 9-5 on the year and 7-5 in the Siouxland. Sheldon falls to 13-2 on the season and 10-2 in the conference. The Orabs twelve game win streak was snapped.

Up next for the Orabs is a home contest Tuesday night at the O-Rena against Okoboji. Rock Valley is back in action on Tuesday at Central Lyon.
