Rock Valley Opens Tournament Play Tuesday

Des Moines, Iowa — Rock Valley will open Class 2A quarterfinal play with the final game of the first round. The #2 seed begins their state run at 12:15 Tuesday afternoon against #7 seed Jesup. Both teams enter the tournament at 19-5.

The Rockets have three seniors averaging double figures led by Morningside comitt Bryson Van Grootheest with 18.6 per game hitting 52 percent from the floor, 40.2 percent from the arc and 71.7 percent from the free throw line. Sam Remmerde averages 11.8 points per game hitting 51.4 percent from the floor. Dawson Van Beek hits for 10.8 per game. His line includes 53.8 percent from the floor, 41.3 from deep and 77.4 percent from the line.

Remmerde is the leading rebounder with 7.2 per game and another senior Caleb Kats is the assist leader at 3.1 per game.

Jesup is led by senior Carson Leinau with 20.9 points per game. He’s hitting 68.2 percent from the free throw line. Senior Corbin Fuelling averages 16.5 per game hitting 36.8 percent from three point range and 71.4 percent from the line. Jack Miller a sophomore adds 15.1 per game with a 37.9 percentage from beyond the arc and a 71.7 free throw percentage.

Leinau is the J Hawks rebounding leader with 11.5 per game averaging a double-double on the season. Senior Parker McHone  is the assists leader with 5.8 per game.

Jesup has outscored teams 74-56 this season while the average score for the Rockets has been 64-51. Rock Valley has a slim edge at the free throw line converting 66.7 percent as a team with Jesup at 65.1 percent.

Opening tip is scheduled for 12:15 Tuesday. The winner advances to the semis set for 12:15 on Thursday. The upper bracket semi rolls off at 10:30 Tuesday morning.
