Rockets Are 2A State Champions

Des Moines, Iowa — After splitting the regular season matchups, Rock Valley won the best of three bout and the 2A state title against Central Lyon Friday afternoon in Des Moines 74-51.

The contest was tight to start with the score being 4-4 at the midway point of the first quarter. Coming out of the timeout, Rock Valley went on a 13-2 run to end the quarter to lead 17-6. Rock Valley extended their lead to 25-12 at the second quarter media timeout and took a 38-18 lead into the half.

In the first half, the Rockets shot just under 70% from the field and 5 of 7 from beyond the arc. Central Lyon shot 46.7% from the field, going 7 of 15 and 2 of 5 from three point land.

Rock Valley’s Bryson Van Grootheest and Landyn Van Kekerix each had 11 points in the first half.

Central Lyon then started the second half off on a 5-0 run, but Rock Valley would counter and had the lead 46-27 at the 3rd quarter media timeout. Rock Valley continued their efficient shooting and took a 62-37 lead into the fourth. The Rockets cruised in the final quarter and came away with the 74-51 win.

Rock Valley got a game high 26 from Van Kekerix and Van Grootheest added 25. Central Lyon got a team high 15 points from Zach Lutmer and Rex Van Wyhe added 11 points.

Rock Valley ends their season at 22-5, and Central Lyon’s season ends at 24-3
