Salazar To Play Football, Baseball For NWC

Orange City, Iowa — Eric Salazar of Rock Valley has signed a letter of intent to continue his football and baseball careers at Northwestern College next fall.

Salazar is a 6’0″, 190-pound utility player who played three years for the Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley football team. Salazar totaled 28 tackles and one interception at linebacker to earn all-district honors last fall. He converted 27-of-35 point after attempts and recorded four touchbacks while averaging over 40 yards per kickoff attempt, also earning all-district honors as a kicker. A member of the honor roll and National Honor Society, Salazar plans to study elementary education at Northwestern.

“Eric is a great athlete and competitor,” said Northwestern Head Coach Matt McCarty. “He played for a very strong high school program and has been coached well. Eric understands the work it takes to be successful and we look forward to his contributions on our football team.”

Salazar is a four-year letter winner for the Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley baseball team heading into his final season this summer. Salazar went unbeaten on the mound last summer, posting a 7-0 record with a 1.99 earned run average in 11 appearances. He totaled 77 strikeouts in 49.1 innings and earned firs team all-state honors. Salazar also hit .444 with 18 extra-base hits and led his team in both runs (27) and RBIs (30). He is a two-time all-conference selection and earned all-district accolades as a junior. Salazar is the son of Kelly and Nicole Roder.

“Eric is a high-level player who can do multiple things well on the baseball field,” commented Northwestern Head Coach Brian Wede. “He is also a quality young man who possesses great work ethic, both on the field and in the classroom. We think Eric is a player who we can build our program on and are excited to have him part of our Red Raider baseball team.”
