Schafer, Gesink, Drake Earn GPAC Volleyball Honors

Sioux City, Iowa – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following Volleyball players-of-the-week for contests played September 24-30, 2018. Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2018-2019 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program.

Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Volleyball Players-of-the-Week

Attacker – Courtney Schafer, Briar Cliff University (Outside Hitter)

Briar Cliff’s Courtney Schafer is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Volleyball Attacker-of-the-Week. Schafer, a senior, from Sheldon, Iowa, led the Chargers in kills back-to-back nights, including 15 kills on just 28 attempts with no errors in a 3-0 victory against crosstown rival Morningside. She also added 15 kills in a loss to College of Saint Mary. For the week Schafer had an attacking percentage of .529.

Setter- Jamie De Jager, Dordt College

Jamie De Jager of Dordt College is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Volleyball Setter-of-the-Week. De Jager, a senior from Sioux Center, Iowa, guided Defenders to a pair of wins last week, finishing the week with a total of 78 assists, lifting her assists per set average to 10.59 for the season with her 11.1 assists per set this week. She also added six blocks in sweep of Doane University. In a 3-1 win over Hastings she had 53 assists, 14 digs, three kills and an ace serve.

Defender – Aubrey Drake, Dordt College (Libero)

Dordt’s Aubrey Drake is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Volleyball Defender-of-the-Week. Drake, a senior from Rock Island, Illinois, recorded 39 digs in two matches last week. In a 3-1 win over 13th-ranked Hastings she piled up 20 digs and in a sweep of Doane she had 19. She also added three assists on the week.
