Sheldon And Hinton Split Doubleheader

Hinton, Iowa — The Sheldon Orabs and Hinton Blackhawks split a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday night in Hinton. The girls game went to the Blackhawks 59-35, and the Orab boys won a thriller in overtime 58-55.

In the girls game, Hinton jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead, but Sheldon battled back and only trailed 21-15 after the first quarter. Heading into halftime Hinton extended their lead to 32-23. The Blackhawks took control in the third, outscoring Sheldon 17-4, and had a 49-27 lead heading into the fourth. Hinton won 59-35.

Hinton got a game high 15 from Bella Badar, 12 points from Anna Coffee, and Aubree Lake put in ten points. Sheldon had a team high 10 from Makenna Kleinhesselink.

With the win Hinton improves to 7-5 on the year. Sheldon falls to 4-10 on the season.

In the boys game, both teams combined to hit 27 three pointers. It was a back and forth affair early, and Hinton took a 17-15 lead after the first quarter when Gavin Nelson hit a buzzer beater to give the Blackhawks the lead. The battle continued in the second, with Hinton maintaining their 2-point advantage heading into halftime 25-23. Sheldon and Hinton continued to go back and forth in third with Hinton leading by 1, 34-33 after three. The Orabs and Blackhawks were deadlocked late, and a late shot by Tye Sudbeck wouldn’t go and the game would go into extra minutes tied at 49-49. In overtime, Sheldon held a 58-55 lead with 20 seconds to go, a last second shot by Hinton’s Landon Lovrein would not fall and Sheldon came away with the win.

Sheldon had a game high 24 from Sudbeck, all from beyond the arc. Hinton got a team high 18 from Caleb Holmes, and 13 points from Desmond Riley. Sheldon made 16 three pointers, to Hinton’s 11 from long range.

With the win, Sheldon improves to 5-8 on the season. Hinton falls to 5-7.

Up next for Sheldon is a home contest Friday night against MOC-Floyd Valley.
