Sheldon, Iowa — Sheldon and Sioux Center Split a Siouxland Conference doubleheader at Sheldon Tuesday night. The girls game went to Sheldon 38-25 with the Warriors taking the nightcap 59-46.
Sheldon led at all the breaks in the first game. They were up 6-5 at the end of the first quarter and 13-11 at halftime. At the end of three it was 22-17 with the Orabs winning 38-25.
With balanced scoring and no players in double figures Sheldon got a game high 9 from Payton Lode and 8 points each from Claire Johnson and Maliah Kleinhesselink. Makkena Kleinhesselink added 7.
The Warriors were led by Megan Juffer with 8 points and Reagan Jansen with 7. A total of 7 Warriors found a spot in the scorebook.
With the win Sheldon is 4-5 on the season and 2-5 in the conference. Sioux Center is now 4-3 with all conference games on their schedule so far.
In the boys game Sioux Center led 17-11 at the end of the first quarter and pushed that to a 39-25 halftime lead. Sheldon closed to within 43-37 after outscoring the Warriors 12-4 in the third quarter. At one point the lead was down to three. In the fourth Sioux Center regained control and went on to win it 59-46.
The Warriors got a game high 16 from Christian Vietor, 14 from Carson Bruhn and 12 from Cael Van Beek. Sheldon had two players in double figures with Shane Brouwer hitting for 14 and Max Hamill for 10. Anthony Provost and Ryan Vollink had 8 points each.
With the win Sioux Center is even at 3-3 both on the year and in the conference. Sheldon is 3-5 for the year and 2-4 in the Siouxland. Sioux Center returns to action on Monday January 3rd hosting Le Mars. Sheldon opens the second half of the regular season at Rock Valley on Tuesday January 4th.
