Sheldon Drops Two To Spirit Lake

Sheldon dropped a pair of non-conference games to Spirit Lake at home with the girls falling 48-31 and the boys came up on the short end 51-43.

The girls contest started off very slow with neither team able to find the bucket and was tied 6-6 after the first quarter. Spirit Lake came out the aggressor in the second quarter and pushed out to a 20-7 advantage with 1:30 left in the half. The Orabs would rally late in the quarter but still trail 22-14 at half. The teams traded baskets in the third quarter and the Indians led 31-22 after three. Spirit Lakes defense stepped up in the fourth forcing some Orab turnovers and go on to a 48-32 victory.

Spirit Lake had two players in double figures with Molly VanDyke leading the way with 12 and Taylor Schneider put in 11. Maliah Kleinhesselink led the way for the Orabs with 11 points.

Spirit Lake improves to 2-7 overall and 1-2 in the Lakes Conference and The Orabs would fall to 1-9 and 1-7 in Siouxland Conference play.

The boys game started out quickly for Spirit Lake prompting a quick timeout from the Orabs. The Orabs settled down and would take the lead behind two big threes from Blake Radke and would lead 14-12 after one. Both teams played very good defense in the second quarter and the Orabs would hold on to the lead 22-21 at half. Spirit Lake came out the aggressor in the third quarter with Creighton Moricsh scoring 8 of his 14 points in the quarter. The fourth quarter momentum stayed with the Indians behind Vance Katzfey scoring 11 of his game high 16 points in the frame. Spirit Lake would go on to post a 51-43 victory.

Spirit Lake placed two players in double figures led by 16 from Katzfey and 14 from Moricsh. The Orabs were led by Tye Sudbeck with 15 and Blake Radke adding 12 points.

Spirit Lake improves to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in the Lakes Conference and the Orabs would fall to 2-7 and 1-6 in the Siouxland.

Next up for the Orabs is a home game Tuesday night hosting Rock Valley in Siouxland Conference action and Spirit Lakes will host Pocahontas Area Tuesday.
