Sheldon Splits Basketball Doubleheader With Comets

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Orabs and Boyden-Hull Comets split a basketball doubleheader Tuesday night at the O-Rena in Sheldon. The girls game went to the Comets 46-37, and the boys contest went to the Orabs 75-44.

The Sheldon Orabs opened the girls contest on a 6-0 run, but Boyden-Hull clawed their way back into the game and Sheldon led after 1, 13-10. The Comets then went on an 8-0 run in the 2nd quarter and took a 23-17 halftime lead. After three quarters of play, the Comets lead was extended to 38-28, and Boyden-Hull went on to win 46-37.

Boyden-Hull had 2 players in double figures. Mallory Nilles had a game high 11 points, and Erika Pottebaum put in 10 points. The Orabs were led by Emily Meyer with 8 points.

Boyden-Hull improves to 1-1 on the year, 1-1 in the Siouxland. Sheldon falls to 0-2 on the year, 0-2 in the conference.

The Sheldon boys had a big 2nd quarter to catapult them to a 75-44 victory.

Boyden-Hull had a 1st quarter lead at 13-12, but the Orabs rattled off 24 2nd quarter points to take the lead 37-24 at the midpoint of the game. At the break, Kyle Boerhave had 10 1st half points.

Jaden Kleinhesselink added 7 points of his own in the 3rd quarter to give the Orabs a 56-37 lead heading into the final 8 minutes, and Sheldon came away with the 75-44 victory.

The Orabs had 3 players in double figures. Ryan Van Marel had a game high 16 points, while Kleinhesselink added 15 of his own, and Boerhave added another 12. The Comets got a team high 15 points from Zach Noble, and Beau De Jongh had 10 points.

The Orab boys improve to 1-0 on the year, 1-0 in the Siouxland, and Boyden-Hull falls to 0-1 on the year, 0-1 in the conference.

Up next the Orabs travel to Sioux Center on Friday for a doubleheader. The Comets will play host to Okoboji on Friday night.
