SIbley, Iowa – Sibley-Ocheyedan has announced that they are going to apply to join the War Eagle Conference and leave the Siouxland Conference.
A letter from Sibley-Ocheyedan superintendent Stan DeZeeuw sent to media and parents of the Sibley-Ocheyedan Community School Friday, Feb. 14th, was written as follows:
“On Wednesday, February 12th, the board of directors at Sibley-Ocheyedan were presented with an agenda item to vote to apply for entrance into the War Eagle Conference and to leave the Siouxland Conference. Many community members were present at the meeting and many community members and current students spoke during the open forum portion of the meeting. Thank you to those who attended and presented their opinions, in particular our students.
“The board of directors ultimately voted to approve applying for entrance into the War Eagle Conference and to leave the Siouxland Conference pending acceptance into the War Eagle Conference. As a result of the vote Mr. De Zeeuw and Mrs. Elser, activities director, wrote a letter to ask for Sibley-Ocheyedan to be accepted into the War Eagle Conference, as is necessary. The War Eagle Conference has acknowledged receipt of Sibley-Ocheyedan’s letter of application and will give their response at a future date.
“If approved for entrance into the War Eagle Conference, we have requested to be accepted into the conference in the earliest school year possible, either the fall of 2025 or 2026. Sibley-Ocheyedan CSD and the War Eagle Conference will work together once a date is determined by the Conference.”
