Sioux Center Downs Sheldon in Girls Basketball

Sioux Center Iowa — Hope Arends hit a pair of free throws with less than a second on the clock to give Sioux Center a 52-50 home win over Sheldon in a girls basketball matchup Thursday night. At the other end with :04 seconds left Sheldon’s Raegan Freeman had hit a free throw to tie the game at 50-50.

In a game that featured numerous lead changes through out Sioux Center led at the end of the first quarter 20-13. In the second quarter Sheldon’s Brooklyn Grady dropped in 12 of her 14 points to spark the Orabs to a 34-25 halftime lead. Her effort included a trio of 3-point buckets as the Orabs hit 7 threes in the first half. In the third quarter Jacie Vander Waal went off for 11 points as the Warriors regained the lead at 48-45 going into the final 8 minutes.

Hope Arends and Brooklyn Grady tied for game high honors with 14 points each. Maliah Kleinhesselink added a dozen points as the Orabs had two players in double figures to match Sioux Center. Vander Waal finished the night with 11 points.

With the win Sioux Center is even at 2-2 on the year and in the conference. Sheldon stands at 0-5 on the season and 0-4 in the Siouxland.

It’s a quick turnaround for both teams with Sheldon hosting Sibley Ocheyedan friday night. Sioux Center will be at George Little Rock.
