Sioux Center Takes two From Orabs

Sioux Center — Sheldon opened the second half of the basketball season at Sioux Center Friday night and the Warriors got the sweep on identical scores of 63-54.

In the girls game Sioux Center led at all the breaks 17-15 at the end of the first quarter, 34-24 at the half and 47-39 at the end of the third quarter. Orab sophomore Brooklyn Grady had a huge offensive night hitting for a 5-on-5 school record 33 points. Her line included four 3’s, six 2-point buckets and a 9-of-10 performance from the free throw line. She was joined in double figures by Cassidy Bart who had an 11 point night. Grady’s night surpassed the 30 point performance by Meredeth Voss during the 2000-2001 season.

Sioux Center put four players in double figures led by Jacie Vanderwaal with 16 points. Hope Arends and Miah Bleeker hit for 12 points each and Alyssa Mulder pumped in 11.

With the win the Warriors are 4-6 on the year and in the conference. Sheldon is 2-8 for the year and in the conference.

The boys game was a back and forth affair until Sioux Center made a late surge to put it away. The teams played to a 13-13 first quarter tie and a baseline drive by Luke Van Beek put the Orabs up 32-29 as the half came to a close. At the end of three Sioux Center was back in front 45-44. The Warriors took control late in the fourth quarter as they got the win 63-54.

Sioux Center got a game high 17 from Cade Bleeker. Charlie Dykshorn hit for 14 while Wilson Harshbarger had a 10 point game. Sheldon had three players in double figures led by Van Beek with 13 points. Trey Iedema had 12 points while Tyler Lode hit for 11.

With the win Sioux Center is 6-3 for the year and in the Siouxland Conference. Sheldon is 1-8 both for the season and in the conference. Both teams will see their first non conference action this coming week. Sheldon plays host to Hartley Melvin Sanborn on Monday night. On Tuesday Sioux Center will host LeMars.
