Siouxland Conference Allowing 50% Capacity At Basketball And Wrestling Events

Sheldon Iowa — On Thursday Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds announced the lifting of a number of restrictions for residents attending high school sporting events beginning with the Friday January 8th slate of events. The Governor also announced that individual conferences and schools would have the ability to set their own guidelines.

Schools in the Siouxland Conference are acting as a group with their COVID precautions and we had a chance to talk with Sheldon Activities Director Eric Maassen about the new guidelines. The key thing to remember is that masks are required.

The new guidelines are a sign of a continued return to normalcy.

The new guidelines are set to run through February 6th but are subject to possible change.

Individual schools and conferences are allowed to set their own guidelines.

Here is the statement issued by Sheldon Activities Director Eric Maassen in its entirety:

The Siouxland Conference is planning to allow 50% capacity for all home basketball and wrestling events.  Households will be able to continue using the passes previously distributed.  If the general public wishes to attend a home Sheldon Basketball or Wrestling event, they will need to stop in the HS office to get a wristband to attend the event.  We will distribute wristbands until reaching our 50% capacity number.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the HS office.  All spectators are required to wear a mask while at events.
