Spirit Lake Iowa — The third ranked Spirit Lake Indians ran their record to 7-0 and 5-0 in the district with a 52-12 home win over the Sheldon Orabs.
The Indians were on the board first with Mathew Moody scoring on a 7 yard run. Nicolas Dousold added the extra point and Spirit Lake led 7-0.
Sheldon quickly cut the lead to 7-6 with a 70 yard drive. Jaden Kleinhesselink found Phillip Cain for a 36 yard touchdown. The 2-point attempt was no good and the Orabs were within a point with 5:01 to play in the first quarter.
Spirit Lake got the offensive in gear with some explosive plays beginning with a 62 yard Moody touchdown run. Quarterback Logan Backhaus followed with a 4 yard score. Backhaus found Dallas Poock for a 25 yard score. Backhaus broke loose for a 66 yard touchdown run and Nicolas Dousold connected on a 25 yard field goal to make it 32-6 at the half.
In the second half Backhaus found Corey Meschede for a 25 yard score and a fumble recovery was turned into a 6 yard Houston Hawkins touchdown run for the Indians.
Sheldon wrapped up the scoring in the third quarter with a 66 yard drive. Jaden Kleinhesselink went in from 5 yards out to make the final 52-12 in favor of Spirit Lake.
With the win Spirit Lake will take a 7-0 record into next weeks non district match up with Spencer.
Sheldon will play host to MOC Floyd Valley next Friday.
