Tea, South Dakota — The Tea Area Titans were able to sweep the Western Christian Wolfpack in a girl/boy doubleheader Tuesday night in Tea, South Dakota. The Titans took the girls game 62-48, and the boys game 64-46.
In the girls game, Tea jumped out to an early lead, and had a 21-13 lead after the first quarter. Western battled back in the second quarter, tying the game up at 23-23 midway through. The game was tied at 29-29 with seconds to go in the half when Tea’s Katie Vasecka hit a three pointer at the buzzer to give the Titans a 32-29 lead at half. The battle continued in the third. Tea was able to keep the lead after three, 42-38. Free throws by the Titans doomed the Wolfpack’s chances at a comeback as Tea got the win 62-48.
The Titans got a game high 20 points from Vasecka, and Olivia Ritter added 16. Western had two players in double figures. Madison Vis put in a team high 17, and Lydia Van Kley added 10 points.
With the win Tea improves to 10-5 on the season, and Western falls to 4-16 on the year.
A fast start by the Titans doomed the Wolfpack in the boys game. The Titans’ Cael Lundin hit for 11 first quarter points to put Tea in front 17-7 after one. The Wolfpack would battle back in the second quarter to get to within one point. With seconds remaining in the half, Tea’s Jeff Worth hit a buzzer beater three to give the Titan’s a 28-24 lead at the break. Tea caught fire in the 3rd quarter when Garrett Kolbeck hit for 11 points in the quarter and gave the Titans a 52-37 lead after three. The Titans went on to win 61-46.
Tea had a game high 30 points from Lundin, Kolbeck added 16 points. Western had a team high 10 points from Ashtin Van’t Hul.
With the win, the Titans improve to 8-6 on the season. Western falls to 14-4 on the year.
Up next for Western is a home contest against Storm Lake Friday night.
