Top Freshmen Will Be On Display When Iowa Women Play No. 1 UConn In Sweet 16

San Antonio, Texas — Two of the nation’s top freshmen will be on display Saturday when the Iowa Hawkeye women play top ranked UConn in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

Iowa’s Caitlin Clark leads the country in scoring at just under 27 points per game and also leads the nation in assists. Minnesota native Paige Bueckers leads UCONN in scoring at just under 20 points per game. Clark says she played against Bueckers on the AAU circuit and with her on a U-S team that competed internationally.

Clark says UConn has a lot of weapons.

Clark says it is about which team plays best.

Clark is fine if the individual matchup creates more interest.

Iowa coach Lisa Bluder says her young team is having fun and playing its best basketball of the season.

Bluder says UConn is impressive on both ends of the floor.

Bluder says there has been no thought of slowing the tempo against the Huskies.

Tip off is at 12-noon on Saturday.
