Hull, Iowa — The West Lyon Wildcats shutout the Sibley-Ocheyedan Generals 10-0 in Hull on Saturday night in Class 2A District 2 Quarterfinal baseball.
West Lyon got on the scoreboard in the 2nd inning after Mitch Te Slaa walked, advanced to second on the sacrifice bunt by Isaac Heyer, and was ultimately driven in 2 batters later by Tanner Oleson’s hit to left field. Dylan Whalen would reach on a walk, then Jordan Van Beek would drive in both Oleson and Whalen to push to the score to 3-0. The 2nd inning would end with West Lyon ahead 4-0. The Wildcats would add four more in the bottom of the 3rd, another run in the fourth, and finish things off in the sixth with a walk off error on a ball put in play by Whalen as Oleson came into score for the 10-0 final.
Dylan Whalen took the win with a complete game shut out, with 8 strikeouts, only walking 2, and giving up 2 hits.
Trent Kruger took the loss going 2 innings, giving up 4 hits, walked 5, struck-out 3, and gave up 3 earned runs. Jameson Cosgrove came on in relief in the 3rd inning. In 2 innings of work Cosgrove gave up 4 hits, walked 3 batters, while striking out 2, adding 4 runs to his name. In the 5th inning Brady Meinders came into the game to pitch, he went 1 2/3 innings. He walked 3 and struck out 2.
The West Lyon Wildcats improve to 10-10 on the season, and will face Western Christian in Hull on Tuesday, July 14th.
Sibley Ocheyedan ends the season at 5-18.
