West Lyon Sweeps Orabs In Sheldon Tuesday

Sheldon Iowa — West Lyon took a pair of Siouxland Conference basketball games from the Orabs in Sheldon Tuesday night. The girls final was 62-31 while the boys got a 49-42 win.

In the girls game the #13 team in 3A opened a 17-9 first quarter lead and were up at halftime 33-17. At the end of the third it was 41-21 with the Wildcats getting a 62-31 win.

Three players hit double figures with Zavyr Metzger and Brooke Meyer with 12 each and Haley Knoblock adding 10 points on the night. Sheldon was led by Claire Johnson and Payton Lode with 8 points each.

With the win West Lyon is 3-1 on the year and in the conference. Sheldon falls to 1-6 for the year and 1-5 in the Siouxland.

The boys game took a lot of turns with West Lyon up 13-2 at the end of the first quarter. Sheldon responded with an 18-5 scoring advantage in the second quarter to lead 20-18 at the break. The third quarter was even with the Wildcats back in front 30-28. They were able to hold the lead with key free throw shooting down the stretch as they made it a 2-posession game late and eventually get the win 49-42.

The Wildcats go t a game high 17 from Jaxon Meyer and 13 from Riley Hoogeveen. Sheldon was led by Tye Sudbeck with a 13 point night.

With the win West Lyon is even at 2-2 on the year and in the conference. Sheldon stands at 2-4 on the year and 1-4 in the Siouxland. Sheldon returns to action on Friday hosting Boyden Hull. West Lyon will be at Okoboji.
