West Lyon Takes Two In Sheldon

The Sheldon Orab girls come up just short on a hard-fought contest with Class 3A Second ranked West Lyon Wildcats 53-52 Friday night. The Orab boys would fall to the Wildcats 59-46.

The Orab girls started the game off playing tough defense, but the Wildcats would push to a 17-8 lead after one quarter. The second quarter was a back-and-forth contest, and the Wildcats would lead at half, 29-23. The third quarter would belong to the Orabs with tough defense and patients on offense and outscored West Lyon 20-7 in the third and lead 43-36 to start he fourth quarter. West Lyon battled hard and would cut the Orabs lead to one with ten seconds to go. The Wildcats Brooklyn Meyer pulled down on offensive rebound on a missed free throw and put it in to give West Lyon its first lead since early in the third at 53-52 with 1.2 seconds left. The Orabs took a timeout and set up one final play. Emma Barwick was able to throw the inbounds pass to Claire Johnson in the front court and her shot at the buzzer would bounce off the rim and West Lyon would leave the Orena with a 1-point victory, 53-52.

West Lyon’s Brooklyn Meyer led all scorers with 24 points while the Orabs had three players in double figures led by 16 from Maliah Kleinhesselink, 12 from Payten Lode and 10 from Emma Barwick.

West Lyon improves to 16-1 overall and 14-0 in the Siouxland and the Orabs would fall to 9-10 on the year and 6-9 in the Conference.

The Orab boys started off with good defense in a fast first quarter but trailed 11-7 after one. The second quarter was a back-and-forth affair capped off by a 3 pointer at the buzzed from Shane Brouwer to cut the Wildcats lead to 29-26 at intermission. West Lyon had a big third quarter fueled by three 3 pointers from Caleb Folkens and would lead 45-37 entering the final frame. West Lyon would hit some key free throws down the stretch and go on for a 59-46 win.

The Wildcats had three players in double figures led by Folkens with 21, followed by Darren Meyer with 11 and Jaxon Meyer with 10 points. The Orabs had two players in double figures led by Brouwer with 16 points and 11 from Ryan Vollink.

West Lyon improves to 7-8 on the season and 7-7 in Siouxland action and Sheldon would fall to 6-12 overall and 4-10 in the conference.

The Orabs will host Boyden Hull on Tuesday and West Lyon will travel to Okoboji
