West Sioux And West Lyon Meet In Football Semifinals Saturday

Northwest Iowa — Class 1A District 1 foes West Sioux and West Lyon will meet in the State football semifinals on Saturday with a scheduled 1:00 pm kick off. During the regular season West Sioux won a week 7 matchup in Hawarden to claim the District Title in a tie breaker as both teams would end the regular season with one loss.   Following wins in the first two rounds of the playoffs both enter the dome with 10-1 records.

The West Sioux Falcons are looking for their third straight title. They won Class A in 2017 and 1A in 2018 and are back with top passing offense in state. Quarterback Hunter Dekkers enters game as Iowa’s all-time leader in career passing yards (10,327), with 1,510 yards going to Kade Lynott this season. The Falcons downed West Lyon, 35-28 in a week 7 district home game. The Falcons offense is averaging 45 points per game while giving up 16.6 per game. In 7 seasons West Sioux Head Coach Ryan Schwiesow has put together a 67-14 record.

The Wildcats are at the UNI-Dome for second time in three years. Their high-scoring offense is paced by full back Logan Meyer’s 1,138 yards and 21 TDs rushing on the season.  West Lyon is averaging 44.5 points per game while giving up 10.6 points per game. They are led by veteran Head Coach Jay Rozeboom who has put together 270 wins against 52 losses over 28 seasons.

The RPI rankings have West Sioux at #3 with West Lyon at #5. In the final Radio Iowa poll they were ranked #5 and 6 respectively.

Kick off is set for 1:00 pm on Saturday afternoon.
