Hull, Iowa — The Western Christian Wolfpack and Tea Area Titans split a non-conference doubleheader in Hull Tuesday night. The Tea Area Titans won the girls game 53-48, and the Western Christian boys won 77-42.
In the girls game, points were hard to come by as it was just 5-5 after the first quarter. Western would start the second on a 5-0 run but the Lady Titans took the lead at halftime 21-17. Western and Tea Area would battle back and forth in the 3rd, capped off by a Lydia Van Kley 3 pointer at the buzzer to give the Wolfpack a 36-35 lead heading into the final quarter. Tea would get the lead late and hit key free throws and come away with the 53-48 win.
Western got a team high 15 points from both Stella Winterfeld and Claire Bleeker. Lydia Van Kley added 12 points. The Titans got a game high 17 from Katie Vasecka and 14 points from Bryn Schupner.
With the win, Tea Area improves to 8-7 on the year. Western falls to 6-13 on the season.
The Western boys started off hot and never trailed. Western jumped out to a 10-0 lead early and had a 17-11 lead after the first quarter. Western continued to lead at halftime 29-17. Western started the second half off hot pushing their lead to 55-27 after three and cruised to a 77-42 win.
Western got a game high 19 points from Ty Van Essen, 18 from Tate Van Regenmorter, 15 from Eli Van Essen and Wyatt Gulker added 10 points. Tea area got a team high 14 points from Cael Lundin, 11 of those points came in the first quarter.
With the win, Western improves to 16-1 on the year, and Tea Area falls to 9-4 on the season.
Up next for Western is a road contest to Storm Lake on Friday.
