Western Falls to North Lynn in 2A Semifinals

western logoWestern Christian saw a run State Class 2A Girls Basketball titles come to an end at three straight as they fell to third ranked North Lynn 73-71 in overtime in Thursday’s semifinals.

North Lynn used an 8-0 run to start the game and propel them to a 20-13 first quarter lead. The Wolfpack would battle back and the game was even at halftime at 31-31. By the end of the third quarter Western was up 52-45 on a six point surge as Abbie Wolterstorff hit a corner three and Jamie Gesink converted an and-one opportunity as the quarter came to a close. In the fourth quarter North Lynn battled back to tie the score at 63-63 and send the game into overtime. The Lynx were two points better in the overtime period and they move on to the Championship Friday night against Unity Christian after the 73-71 overtime win.

Western had two players in double figures with Jamie Gesink hitting for 28 points and Kenzie Bousema adding 12 before fouling out with 2:56 to go in overtime.

North Lynn got a game high 30 points from Division one Drake recruit Nicole Miller who went 11-of-14 at the free throw line for the game missing just 2-of-8 in the fourth quarter and in overtime.

With the win North Lynn advances to Friday night’s Championship game against top ranked Unity with a record of 25-1. Western ends the year with a record of 22-4.
