Storm Lake, Iowa — Western Christian got the season sweep against Storm Lake Friday night after taking two in Storm Lake. The girl game went to Western 77-27, and the Wolfpack boys came back to win 42-32.
In the girls game, Western had the lead at all the breaks. The Wolfpack jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter and had a 18-9 lead after one. Western started the second quarter on a 12-0 run, and took a 44-15 lead into halftime. After three it was 63-23 Western, and the Wolfpack went on to win 77-27.
Western had four players in double figures. Macay Van’t Hul had a game high 13, Makenna Kooima put in 12, all from beyond the arc. Olivia Granstra and Abby Postma each added eleven. Storm Lake got a team high 10 from Mary Yanga.
With the win, Western improves to 13-7 on the year, and 7-2 in the Lakes. Storm Lake falls to 2-16 on the season, and 0-9 in the Conference.
The Western boys had to play from behind for most the game and trailed at all the breaks except the one that mattered.
Storm Lake employed the stall tactics to slow down Western’s offense, and the Tornadoes were successful for three quarters. Storm Lake had a 11-5 lead after one, and a 17-16 lead at the intermission. After three it was 29-28 Storm Lake. Western then got some offense going in the fourth. The Wolfpack started the final eight minutes with a 9-0 run, and went on to win 42-32.
Western got a game high 13 from Dawson Feenstra. Storm Lake’s leading scorer was Mark Eddie with 9.
With the win Western improves to 15-3 on the year and 9-0 in the Lakes. Storm Lake falls to 7-9 on the season, and 4-5 in the conference.
Up next for Western is a boys game Saturday afternoon at the Sanford Pentagon at 5:00 pm against Sioux Falls Washington.
