West Lyon Sweeps Orabs in Sheldon

Sheldon Iowa — West Lyon swept the night and the season series with Sheldon at the Orina Friday night. The girls game went to the Wildcats 59-29. They won the boys game as well 65-48.

In the girls game West Lyon was up 13-7 at the end of the first quarter and 28-15 at the half. At the end of the third the lead was up to 43-23 as they went on to the win.

Brooklyn Meyer led all scorers with 16 for the Wildcats. She was joined by Mallory Gramstad with 14. Sheldon was led by Maliah Kleinhesselink with a 12 point night.

With the win West Lyon is 15-5 on the year and 14-4 in the conference. Sheldon falls to 5-15 for the season and 4-13 in the Siouxland.

In the boys game West Lyon turned a four point third quarter lead into a 65-48 win by going 17-of-21 at the free throw line in the fourth quarter. At the end of the first quarter the Wildcats were up 16-11 and pulled into halftime up 27-24. St the end of the third quarter Sheldon trailed by just four 39-35 to set the stage for the fourth quarter.

Jalyn Gramstad had a game high 16 including an 8-of-8 performance at the line in the final quarter. He was loined by Jaxon Meyer with 14 and Logan Meyer with 12 on the night. Sheldon put four players in double figures as Kaleb Ackerman and Brady Waldstein hit for 12 points apeace. Shane Brouwer and Jordan Jefferies each had 10 points on the night.

With the win West Lyon is 11-8 for the year and 11-6 in the conference. Sheldon is now 5-14 on the season and 4-12 in the conference.

Up next for Sheldon will be the final home games of the season hosting Boyden Hull. West Lyon will be at Okoboji. After Tuesday the boys will finish their regular seasons on Friday with the girls teams off until the 3A Region 1 tournament opens up on Saturday February 15th.
