Storm Lake, Iowa — The Western Christian Wolfpack girls and boys got the season sweep over Storm Lake Friday night in Storm Lake. The Western girls won 43-34, and the Western boys clinched the Lakes Conference title with their 84-56 win.
The girls game started slow with neither team scoring in the first two minutes. Western then jumped out to an 8-0 lead and took an 8-4 lead into the second quarter. Western went on a 6-0 run in the second quarter and had a 18-11 lead heading into the half. The Wolfpack kept Storm Lake at arms length the rest of the way with a 33-20 lead after three and went on to win 43-34.
Western got a game high 11 points from Stella Winterfeld and 10 points from Claire Bleeker. Storm Lake got a team high 11 points from Maddy Raveling.
With the win Western improves to 7-12 on the year and 3-6 in the Lakes. Storm Lake falls to 5-15 on the season and winless in the conference.
The Western boys continued their winning ways with 19 first half points by Ty Van Essen. Western was down 4-0 early then went on runs of 6-0 and 13-0 to lead 21-6 after the first eight minutes. Western had a 38-24 lead at the half. The Wolfpack turned their game up to eleven in the second half, leading 68-40 and getting the win 84-56.
Western got a game high 25 points from Ty Van Essen, 18 from Wyatt Gulker, and 10 points from Tate Van Regenmorter. Storm Lake got a team high 10 points from Luth Dak and Austin Gaffney.
With the win, Western improves to 17-1 on the year and 8-1 in the conference. Storm Lake falls to 10-7 on the season and 4-6 in the Lakes.
Up next for Western is a boys only matchup at the Sanford Pentagon against Minneapolis North on Saturday night.
