Western Girls Top Rock Valley

Hull, Iowa — The Western Christian Wolfpack used a big third quarter to propel themselves to a Class 2A Region 1 quarterfinal win Tuesday night in Hull

The Wolfpack and Rockets battled early on and after one, Western had a 12-8 lead. Both teams continued to go back and forth and heading into the break, the game was tied 25-25. Western created some separation in the third after Makenna Kooima hit four from beyond the arc as Western outscored Rock Valley 20-7 in the third for a 45-32 lead heading into the final 8 minutes. Western was able to maintain their lead and came away with a 61-52 win.

Western got a game high 22 from Olivia Granstra, and Kooima added 15. Rock Valley had 3 players in double figures. Abby Heemstra had a team high 16, Lexie Van Kekerix put in 11, and Kielee Koedam added 10.

With the win, Western improves to 15-7 on the year and will face Boyden-Hull Friday night at the Western Gym. Rock Valley’s season comes to an end at 9-14.
