Tristan Wilson of Paullina has signed a letter of intent to continue his football and track and field careers at Northwestern College next fall.
Wilson is a 6’0″, 180-pound running back and cornerback who played three years for the South O’Brien High School football team. Wilson rushed for 2,295 yards, third most in the state, in leading his team to the class A quarterfinals and a 9-2 record. He averaged an impressive eight yards per carry and scored 24 touchdowns while being named the district’s most valuable player on offense. Wilson accounted for 21.5 tackles and scored one touchdown on an interception return. He earned first team all-Northwest Iowa Review team honors two years and was selected to play in the Shrine Bowl.
“Tristan had an outstanding season running the football,” commented Northwestern Head Coach Matt McCarty. “He is a great athlete who possesses all the attributes you look for in a running back; speed, power, agility and vision. Tristan is an excellent addition to our football team.”
Wilson has competed three years for the South O’Brien track and field team heading into his final season this spring. Wilson ran for a 4×100 relay that won the conference championship as a junior and has a personal best of 11.9 in the 100m. He is a member of the honor roll and plans to major in Athletic Training at Northwestern. Wilson is the son of Mark and Michelle.
“Tristan will make a great addition to our men’s track and field team,” stated Northwestern Head Track and Field Coach Scott Bahrke. “He is a hard worker and gifted sprinter who puts his team first. Tristan will make our sprint crew better and we look forward to him competing for us over the next four years.”
