Hull, Iowa — The Western Christian Wolfpack were able to get the non-conference sweep of the Unity Christian Knights Thursday night in Hull. The girls game went to Western Christian 55-48, and the Wolfpack boys got the win 72-57.
In the girls game, Western and Unity battled back and forth to start the contest and Western had a 16-13 win after the first 8 minutes. Western proceeded to outscore Unity 19-5 in the second quarter and took at 35-18 lead into halftime. The Knights were able to bring the score to within eight after three with Western’s lead dwindling to 43-35, but Western was able to hold on to win 55-48.
Western had three players in double figures. Western got a team high 13 from Ally Postma, and Madison Vis and Macay Vant Hul each added 11 points. Unity got a game high 17 from Janie Schoonhoven, and 15 points from Emma Byker.
With the win Western improves to 8-4 on the season and Unity falls to 7-4 on the year.
The Western boys won their 8th straight contest after leading at all the breaks. After one Western had a 16-10 lead. Just like the girls, the Wolfpack put together a big second quarter outscoring the Knights 28-16, and took a 44-26 lead into the intermission. After three the lead was 51-41, and Western used free throws down the stretch to win 72-57.
Western got a game high 31 from Ty Van Essen, and Dawson Feenstra added 17. Unity got a team high fourteen from Ethan Klompien.
With the win Western improves to 8-2 on the year, and Unity falls to 6-5 on the season.
Up next for the Wolfpack is a road trip to Spirit Lake Monday night.
