Wolverines top Orabs in Paullina

Paullina Iowa — The South O’Brien Wolverines remained unbeaten on the season with a 34-28 home win over Sheldon Friday night.

The Wolverines scored first after the Orabs covered a high punt snap at their own 1 yard line. Sean Negus found the end zone from a yard out and with Tristan Wilson adding the 2 point conversion it was 8-0 Wolverines with 8:35 left in the first quarter.

Later in the first Wilson scored on a 50 yard run. The 2-point attempt failed and the Wolverine lead was 14-0 with 5:49 left in the first quarter.

Sheldon got on the board following a strip sack by Troy Enger. The Orabs recovered at the South O’Brien 9 yard line. Brian Bernal scored on a 1 yard run and added the extra point to cut the lead to 14-7 with 11:15 to play in the second quarter.

South O’Brien answered with 70 yard sprint to the end zone by Wilson. The 2-point attempt was no good and the Wolverines led 20-7 with 10:59 left in the half.

On the ensuing kick off Tyrel Lindemann went 80 yards on the return finding the edge on the right side and outrunning the coverage team to the end zone for the score. The extra point by Bernal got the Orabs to with 20-14 with 10:45 left in the half.

South O’Brien extended the lead with a final drive at the end of the half capped by a 29 yard pass from Jackson Louscher to Zeke Lundquist. The 2-point conversion put the Wolverines in front 28-14 with just :44 seconds left in the half.

South O’Brien recieved the second half kick off and went on a 68 yard drive that took nearly half of the third quarter. Wilson scored his third touchdown of the night on an 8 yard run. The 2-point attempt failed but the lead was up to 34-14 with 7:09 left in the third quarter.

Sheldon scored the final two touchdowns of the game. The first came on a 61 yard  drive capped by a Brian Bernal 15 yard run. Bernal added the point after and the lead was cut to 34-21 with 4:02 left in the third.

In the fourth quarter the Orabs found the end zone after an 83 yard drive. Bernal scored his third touchdown of the night from 2 yards out following a 28 yard completion from quarterback Kaleb Ackerman to Brendan Cain. Bernal’s extra point cut the lead to 6 points with 11:43 to play.

The Wolverines defense came up with the big play when they needed it to keep Sheldon off the scoreboard the rest of the way and 34-28 would hold up as the final score.

With the win South O’Brien is 2-0 on the year while Sheldon falls to 1-1. The Orabs will play the home opener next Friday with the Le Mars Bulldogs. The Wolverines will be at Alta Aurelia next Friday.
